Hello, Fellow Freundin der Kastanie!

Our personal chestnuts for this fall include:

1. Die Unbeugsamen

http://www.dieunbeugsamen-film.de

This documentary tells the story of women in the Bonn Republic,West German Democracy, 1945-1990: Pioneering political minds who fought for their participation in the democratic decision-making process and were met with aggressive pushback by the men in power. Undaunted, determined and persistent, these women held the line, pursued their goals and defied prejudice, marginalisation and sexual discrimination. Here, some of these women share their expertise and their experiences. Interwoven with partially unseen archive excerpts, this film is a moving chronicle of West German politics from the 1950s to reunification.

2. Bis eine weint – Palomaa Publishing & Faces-of-Moms

This new Leipziger Independent Publishing House, run by founder Anne Friebel and her all-female team, features the topics female health, equality, feminism, working mothers, female entrepreneurship and personal development. Palomaa Publishing’s current release “Bis eine* weint!” by Nicole Noller and Natalie Stanczak, founders of the platform Faces of Moms* (www.facesofmoms.de), raises awareness of the value of care-work, advocates for structural support of work-life balance and conscious inclusion of mothers* ,families and women * in current political debates.

A manifesto for diversity. For love. For honest and open conversation.

3. HerStory

Podcast über prägende Frauen der Geschichte: https://herstory.de

Women lead revolutions, achieve scientific breakthroughs, develop inventions, embark on death-defying adventures and run organised crime – but the majority of portraits of these roles feature stereotypical visuals of men with prominent bellies, monocles, pipes, moustaches, carrying all the big guns. HerStory is a podcast about the women of history, reporting on female pioneers in pants, on motorcycles, with microscopes and revolvers. HerStory tells of pioneers in science, business and politics – and all those who did not care or were not intimidated by gender expectations or role models.
